Psychological Counseling
Your Mental Wellbeing Is an Essential Part of Your Academic Success
The College recognizes that the university experience extends beyond academic achievement. It also involves personal growth, the ability to adapt, resilience in the face of challenges, and the development of healthy and balanced relationships.
Accordingly, the Psychological Counseling and Student Wellbeing Unit is committed to fostering a safe and supportive environment in which students can seek assistance with confidence, dignity, and absolute privacy. The Unit supports students experiencing psychological, academic, or social challenges that may affect their studies, helping them develop effective coping skills and take constructive steps toward a more balanced university life.
1. How Can We Help?
You may contact the Unit if you are experiencing:
Psychological Pressure: Anxiety, stress, or intense emotional pressure.
Adjustment Challenges: Difficulty adjusting to university life or feelings of isolation.
Academic Stress: Examination-related stress, low motivation, or difficulty concentrating.
Time Management: Chronic procrastination or difficulties balancing responsibilities.
Personal Circumstances: Low self-confidence, family or social difficulties, grief, and loss.
Physical & Emotional Fatigue: Sleep difficulties or severe emotional exhaustion.
Decision Making: Uncertainty about major academic or personal decisions.
💡 Remember: You do not need to be experiencing a crisis to seek support. A single session may help you understand your concern more clearly and identify the right step forward.
2. Our Core Services
Individual Counseling: Confidential one-to-one sessions that provide a safe space to discuss personal concerns and develop practical strategies with a counselor.
Academic and Psychological Support: Targeted support for students experiencing exam anxiety, concentration difficulties, lack of motivation, and academic adjustment challenges.
Group Counseling: Facilitated sessions for small groups of students facing similar challenges, allowing them to share experiences and build communication skills in a respectful environment.
Initial Consultations: Brief meetings designed to identify the nature of a concern, assess the level of support required, and direct the student to the most appropriate service.
Referral to Specialist Services: Assistance in referring students to qualified external professionals or healthcare providers when specialist psychological therapy or medical care is required.
📌 Preventive and Awareness Programs
The Unit regularly organizes workshops, seminars, and awareness campaigns addressing vital topics such as:
Stress management and maintaining a healthy study–life balance.
Preparing effectively for examinations and building self-confidence.
Emotional intelligence, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
Preventing bullying and violence in the campus environment.
Maintaining a healthy and balanced use of technology.
Promoting help-seeking behaviour and reducing the stigma associated with mental health.
3. Confidentiality and Privacy
Information shared by students with the Unit is treated with the utmost confidentiality and respect:
Details of counseling sessions are not included in students’ academic records.
Information is never disclosed to any other party (faculty or peers) without the student’s explicit knowledge and consent.
⚠️ Exceptions to Confidentiality: Exceptions apply only when there is a serious and immediate risk to the safety of the student or others, or when disclosure is mandated by applicable laws. In such circumstances, only the absolute necessary information will be shared to protect the individuals concerned.
4. What Happens When You Seek Support?
Appointment Request: The student submits a request through the online form or contacts the Unit directly.
Initial Consultation: A brief meeting is scheduled to understand the student’s needs and determine the right form of support.
Developing a Plan: A clear, short-term counseling plan is developed collaboratively between the counselor and the student.
Follow-up or Referral: Further sessions are arranged as needed, or the student is guided to specialist external services if necessary.
5. Who Can Access the Service?
For Students: Services are fully available to students across all academic departments and levels of study, without discrimination, ensuring equal access and inclusion.
For Faculty and Staff: Faculty members and College staff may seek professional guidance on how best to support a student showing signs of psychological distress, without violating the student’s privacy.
6. Are You Concerned About a Fellow Student?
If you notice a significant change in a fellow student’s behaviour—such as social withdrawal, repeated absence, a sudden decline in academic performance, or expressions of hopelessness:
Listen to them compassionately and without judgement.
Gently encourage them to contact the Unit.
Important Note: You are not expected to address the problem on your own. True support begins with listening and helping them connect with the right professional assistance.
7. Support in Urgent Situations
🚨 Urgent Notice: The Psychological Counseling Unit is not a substitute for emergency medical or psychiatric services. If you or someone you know is in immediate danger or is seriously considering harming themselves or others, please contact one of the following without delay:
